Abstract
Objectives: To suggest the methods inducing breast feeding, the rate of breast feeding and the factors related to breast feeding were observed.

Methods: The subjects were 207 mothers who visited three public health centers in Busan to get a vaccination to their infants aged 1~6 months. Questionnaire survey including general knowledge of breast feeding, breast feeding barriers and maternal role strains was performed to them from February to March, 2005.

Results: The rate of breast feeding of subjects was 35.7%, the rate of milk feeding and mixed feeding were 35.3% and 29.0%, respectively. The Odds Ratios (ORs) of breast feeding for milk feeding were significantly higher than 1 in the cases who planned the breast feeding duration longer while they were pregnant. As increasing the scores of maternal role strains and breast-feeding barriers. ORs were significantly lower than 1.

Conclusion: Although the rate of breast feeding become higher than before, it is not sufficient. To induce breast feeding, the method how to overcome the barriers of breast feeding and maternal role tension should be educated in hospital and public health centers.
